Cynthia Erivo has turned out no small number of custom looks this awards season, but for tonight’s SAG Awards, she dipped into the fashion archives.

The Wicked actor, who is nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role, met the moment in Givenchy fall 1997 haute couture by Alexander McQueen, styled by Jason Bolden. (Called “Eclect Dissect,” the collection took inspiration from cultures across the world, including Spain, Scotland, and Japan. As McQueen told Numéro in 2002, he approached fall 1997 couture like a “mad scientist who cut all these women up and mixed them all back together.”) Her asymmetrical, floor-sweeping dress is made of woven silver-plated raffia, and features a dramatic high-neck fringed collar and wide sleeves.

The actor coordinated her makeup and some of her Bucherer jewelry with her dress, opting for a silvery eyeshadow and a burst of white gold and diamond jewelry. But she also used her beauty and jewels to pay homage to her character Elphaba Thropp, adding her signature green to her nails and wearing green and yellow rings to represent the Emerald City and Yellow Brick Road.

Erivo isn’t the only high-octane star who has borrowed a piece from this collection lately. In October, Givenchy creative director Sarah Burton opened the archives for Kaia Gerber, who attended the 2024 Academy Gala in a My Fair Lady-inspired black beaded haute couture dress from fall 1997; and at the 2024 Met Gala, Kendall Jenner wore a black beaded dress from the fall 1999 couture collection. Tonight at the 2025 SAG Awards, Cynthia Erivo continues the vintage Givenchy renaissance.
