Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa were living extremely privately up to their deaths.
The couple, who were found dead in their Santa Fe home Feb. 26 along with one of their three dogs, had made their final public appearance last spring during a lunch outing in the New Mexico city.
In photos from the March 2024 outing, Gene, 95, carries a cane and holds onto his wife’s arm as he walks out of Pappadeaux’s Seafood Kitchen. The French Connection star wore a plaid button-down shirt, a gray vest and green slacks, along with a hat, sunglasses placed over its bill. Betsy, for her part, donned a silky patterned shirt and jeans, carrying a blue sweater. The 64-year-old also wore sunglasses pushed up on her head.
Gene and Betsy were found dead at around 2 o’clock in the afternoon Feb. 26, after a neighbor had called police for a wellness check, Santa Fe authorities told NBC News in a statement, adding that no foul play was suspected in their deaths and the investigation was ongoing.
