As for why the comedian decided to cover his body in tattoos in the first place? Pete previously confessed it was to hide scars from his self-harm.

“That’s why I started getting tats on my chest, to cover them,” he said in a February 2020 interview with Charlamagne Tha God. “When I get really angry or upset, it feels really good to just get needled up or get a tat.”

Now that he’s in a healthier headspace, Pete has been able to reflect on his choices.

“I made a lot of those decisions before rehab, so I have the dumbest tattoos,” he explained on the Feb. 6 episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers. “I got a collection of cartoons smoking blunts like a muppet smoking a blunt, the Tootsie Pop owl smoking a blunt.”

But as he noted, “When I’m 40, it’ll all be gone. Chest and back.”
