The movie that will serve as Jesse Armstrong‘s follow-up to Succession has announced its lead actors and is set to begin production soon. It even has a rough premiere date — HBO says it’s set to air sometime in the spring.
Steve Carell (The Office, The Patient) Jason Schwartzman (Bored to Death, Megalopolis), Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night) and Ramy Youssef (Ramy, Poor Things) will star in the film, playing “a group of billionaire friends who get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis,” per the movie’s logline.
What the film doesn’t have yet — or at least, isn’t being revealed yet — is a title. HBO released an image of the first page from Armstrong’s script (see it below), but the title is obscured as if the ink has bled from getting wet.

Filming is slated to start later this month in Park City, Utah. It’s likely to be a pretty tight schedule if HBO is planning to debut the movie in the spring (likely in time for Emmy eligibility).
“I’m intrigued to discover whether being around so many brilliant actors and directors on ‘Succession’ has in any way rubbed off on me. Let’s hope so,” Armstrong said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi and the whole HBO team for backing this film so wholeheartedly and helping me pull together a dream team of cast and crew.”
Added Orsi, executive vp HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films, “We’re ecstatic to be back in business with the singular talent Jesse Armstrong coming off our fruitful collaboration on Succession. Jesse once again raises the bar with a bold examination of modern greed, power and male ambition. That this feature serves as his directorial debut will only elevate what is already thrilling on the page, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this timely film with the world soon.”
HBO announced the movie in January; it’s Armstrong’s first TV project as a writer since Succession ended its Emmy-dominating four-season run in 2023 (he’s also an executive producer on Michaela Coel’s upcoming HBO/BBC series First Day on Earth). Carell is also in the HBO fold, as he’s set to star in a comedy series for the premium cabler from Shrinking and Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence.
Armstrong is executive producing the movie with Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod and Jill Footlick.
Carell is repped by WME, MediaFour Management and JSSK. Schwartzman is with UTA, Ocean Avenue Entertainment, and Sloane Offer. Smith is repped by UTA, Circle Management and Production, and Narrative. Youssef is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, Narrative and Yorn Levine.
